Water Softening

Water softening can help you with a plethora of problems, from tough soap scum buildup to problems with plumbing and appliances that use water. With many water softening options to choose from, we can help you determine which method is best for your situation.
When you have hard water, there is an excess of minerals such as magnesium, manganese, calcium and iron; these minerals crystallize and can stick to household surfaces as the water is heated in your home, and by building up in your pipes, they can also cause problems with water heaters and dishwashers that can be expensive to repair. Do you have a tough time getting soap to lather? Do you have a residue on surfaces touched by water that is difficult to remove? These could be indicators of a hard water problem.
There are myriad water softening options available to help correct a hard water problem. One of them is water conditioning. This refers to virtually any method of treating water by neutralization, inhibition or removal of substances that you don’t want in your water.
A reverse osmosis, or RO system, takes dissolved ions out of the water. Pressure forces water through a semi-permeable membrane, which will push the water through but stop other unwanted materials from going through. This water softening method is called reverse osmosis because it uses mechanical pressure to make the water flow from a dilute to a concentrated solution – the reverse of natural osmosis.
Another water softening device is a whole house filter. These connect to the main water line entering your house so that every water dispenser in your home, including toilets, faucets, showers, baths, laundry and kitchen, releases treated water. Usually, these filters are connected to the main water line prior to it splitting into the hot water heater. Depending on what types of minerals and elements you want to remove from the water will determine what kind of whole house filter you want to get. We can help you figure that out.
Filtration is another water softening method. It pushes water through a porous substance to remove chemicals from your water, and it may make you water smell or taste better.
