Septic system repair is something you want to have completed by a professional. Our plumbing company has the experience and equipment to fix Indianapolis-area septic systems and has been doing so for nearly 25 years.
For your safety, you want to have a licensed, insured and bonded plumber do your septic system repair. Fortunately, we are all three. The reason you want to have someone with these credentials is because septic systems can often produce harmful fumes and can pose danger when cleaning if you do not have the right equipment or protection. Also, you are reducing the chance of improper monitoring or even possible damage to your septic system while it is pumped.
So how can you tell if you need septic system repair? You may find clogs, foul odors and/or water pooling on top of your drain field; slow-running drains and/or toilets; or contaminated water. In extreme cases, you may find black sewage on your lawn. All of these situations can pose a health hazard – and may make you very unpopular with your neighbors!
There are myriad reasons why you may need septic system repair. If the system has been excessively used or the tank has not been pumped when necessary, you may find yourself with problems. You also need to make sure your septic tank has roof vents, which make sure the pressure in the system stays equalized. When they become faulty or clogged, that’s when odors may come out.
Too much or too little water can also lead to the need for septic system repair. If you have too much water, it can push solids into the leaching field of the tank, which may lead to clogs or damage the environment; it can also cause your system to fail or shut down. Conversely, if you have too little water, that can cause issues, as well. If the water level is too low, bacteria can be killed off in the system; with septic systems, you want this bacteria because it is necessary to neutralize nitrogen, which is produced in septic tanks. When there is too much nitrogen in the system, your drinking water can become contaminated.
Septic system repair may also be necessary if improper items have been disposed of in the tank. Non-biodegradable items that are flushed down the toilet or drain can clog the pipes and cause leakage into the soil. Plastics, for example, are nearly impossible for a septic system to break down.
Other septic problems can stem from tipping oil into the tank, since oil doesn’t have time to break down and can clog the upper chamber and inlet drains. Excessive amounts of food particles can also lead to problems. And if paints, solvents and chemicals have gotten into your tank, you are most likely going to need septic system repair. Not only can they cause your system to become an environmental threat, they can also contribute to the buildup of nitrogen.
If your system starts giving off nasty odors, you know it’s time to call our plumbing company for septic system repair.
